God is indeed loving, beyond anything we can comprehend.  He is our Father, who takes such joy in His children that He is singing and dancing over us.  But we also have to remember that He is righteous, and judges all sin.  That is one thing that helps gives us a better understanding of the magnitude of His love.  He is righteous and He does judge sin, and He loved us so much that He was willing to put all of our sin on His son, and Jesus His son suffered the righteous judgement of God that we deserved, and died for our sin.

Just as it is impossible for the sun not to shine, it is impossible for God not to demonstrate His love towards us.  God cannot be any less than He is.  He is just, righteous, holy, merciful, good, and loving in all His actions towards us.  The ultimate demonstration of all that God is was in full view with the death and resurrection of His son, which bought for us a relationship with Him, that we would not have had otherwise.

We are just a little over a week past Christmas.  Christmas is a wonderful celebration, celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.  God, knowing us perfectly and knowing the best and worst of what we are, showed the enormous extent of His love towards us HIs creation, by bringing His son into the world as the sacrifice for our sins.  He gave the ultimate gift in order to have the relationship with us that He desired.  There is no greater gift.

Philippians 2:13 tells us that God is working in us, giving us both the desire and the power to do of His good pleasure.  That is a wonderful promise.  He does not leave us to do it ourselves.  We work out our own salvation with fear and trembling….only because it is God himself who is giving us both the desire and the power to do what He desires us to do.  And, this verse also tells us that He does not leave us hanging, giving us only the desire or only the power to do what He desires us to do.  He knows that we have to have both.  Having the desire only or the power only, would not be sufficient.  He, having perfect wisdom as God, gives us everything we need-the desire and the power.

God asks and invites us to come to Him.  This is not a reluctant, sighing, “oh, ok.  You can come into my presence.”  He is literally asking us and inviting us to come into His presence, make our needs known, bask in His love, and get a picture of His power, His righteousness, His holiness, and His love and grace towards us.  It is an “arms wide open invitation,”  not a grudgingly given invitation.  He wants us to come to Him…..whenever, wherever.  Let us rejoice in this God we serve!

David tells us in Psalm 139 that the number of God’s thoughts towards us outnumbers the grains of sand.  Have you ever considered the number of grains of sand there are on this earth alone.  It is a number beyond my comprehension, and yet the number of times He thinks about me is far beyond that.  No wonder David said to God “how precious to me are your thoughts.”

One of the most well known passages in the bible is the Lord’s prayer.  It starts out “our Father, who art in heaven.”  When you think about it, that is one of the most beautiful invitations God could offer us.  He is telling us to come to Him like a child would go to his or her own father.  We read the story about Queen Esther in the old testament.  What she states is that, during her time, one could be killed (even her as the Queen) simply for entering into the presence of the King without an invitation.  What an opposite reaction we receive from God, the creator of all things.  He invites us to come into His presence any and all times we desire to come.  We don’t need a special invitation from Him to come to Him, to enter His presence.  That thought should give us great joy, and great encouragement to talk with God about any and everything we desire.  His invitation is never-ending.

Matthew 10:29-31 tells us that two sparrows are sold for a penny, but not one of them falls to the ground apart from His care.   He then goes on to tell us that we are worth much more than many sparrows.  So, if He is aware of each and every sparrow that falls to the ground, how much more will He be watching over us….every moment of every day!  He is God and He is intimately involved in and watchful over every moment and every aspect of our lives.  That is a truth that we can rejoice and rest in every moment of our day.
